BMX Brake Parts, BMX Brake Pads & BMX Brake Cables
What Should I Understand About BMX Brakes?
More and more freestyle riders are opting for brakes to enhance their control while riding. Not only does having a brake ensure your safety, but it also enables you to master new tricks. To keep your BMX brake components in top condition, regular maintenance and replacement are essential.
BMX Brake Pads
BMX brake pads, also known as brake shoes or brake blocks, are responsible for stopping your wheels. They play a crucial role in your braking system, providing the necessary friction to slow down or stop your wheels.
All brake pads will eventually wear out and need replacing. Most are designed to be compatible with all types of rim brakes and typically feature simple one-piece designs.
The majority of brake pads are non-threaded, but it's important to verify whether you need threaded or non-threaded pads when purchasing.
BMX Brake Cables
Similar to pads, BMX brake cables degrade over time and require replacement. Most BMX bikes are equipped with a single rear U-brake, featuring a standard 1.5mm inner wire and full-length outer casing. BMX brake cables come in either linear or helical styles. Linear cables, the favoured choice among BMX riders, consist of straight wire pieces, while helical cables are crafted from tightly wound wire spirals.
If you are using a Gyro brake system, two cables are necessary - the upper and lower ones. Gyro cables are simple to install and can often be adjusted for varying lengths.
