Playground Skatepark in Barrydale, South Africa
The Playground Skatepark was established to provide a safe recreational space for children in Barrydale, a town situated 250 km northeast of Cape Town, South Africa.
By focusing on personal growth and empowerment through skateboarding, Playground Skatepark seeks to steer young minds away from street crime and drug abuse.
Providing skateboards and lessons, Playground Skatepark supports 45-50 children. Prior to SkatePro’s contribution, local organizer Graham Abbott mentioned one of their challenges: “We are around 50 skaters. We used to have 12 skateboards, but currently, we have only 8.”
SkatePro’s Partnership with Playground Skatepark
Our collaboration with Playground Skatepark began in December 2023. Through conversations with Graham Abbot, we quickly realized that the project aligned perfectly with our vision of supporting personal and communal growth through action sports.
We decided that the most impactful way of supporting the project would be to ship skateboarding equipment directly to Barrydale. SkatePro had never shipped gear to South Africa before (we do not have any commercial interest in South Africa), but our logistics department rose to the challenge.
In February 2024, we successfully sent a large parcel filled with skateboarding hard goods including:
- The Heart Supply complete skateboards
- Spare parts & tools
- T-shirts & other apparel
The total value of the package was €2345.
The skaters in Barrydale were over the moon about the new skateboards, and we were equally thrilled to support Playground Skatepark in its ongoing efforts to bring positive experiences to these amazing kids.
