Guide to Applying Griptape on a Skateboard
Many skaters apply their own skateboard griptape. Attempting this initially can be challenging and demands a certain level of patience. This guide will take you through applying griptape to a skateboard, simplifying the process into three straightforward steps.
THE THREE STEPS TO APPLY SKATEBOARD GRIPTAPE
Tools required: A knife and a skate tool (or a small metal tool)
1. Begin by peeling away the protective backing from the skateboard griptape and position the adhesive side downwards on the top of the board. Firmly press the griptape starting from the centre towards the edges. Use the backing paper to smooth out any air pockets.
2. To mark out where to trim the griptape, gently score the perimeter of the board using a tool. Elevate any overhanging griptape along the board's edges and cut at approximately a 45° angle following the marks.
3. For a neater finish along the board's edges, smooth the sides of the griptape using the spare griptape.
