Purchasing Axles for Scooters
Scooter axles differ in size and form depending on the brand and model. An improperly adjusted axle can cause noise and potential malfunctions.
Measuring Length
An axle or bolt's length is measured in millimetres, excluding the head (without head). This measurement gives you the precise length.
How Do You Choose the Right Axle Length?
- For a deck or fork using a type A axle, it should not extend beyond the deck or fork's frame/wall.
- If a deck or fork requires a type B axle, ensure it extends 10 mm beyond the frame/wall to secure the lock nut.
Installing Pegs
- Pegs installation requires extension by at least 10 mm plus the peg’s thickness. Opting for a longer type B axle is always wise.
- Swapping between type A and B is feasible.
Head Design
Various head types are displayed below. Ensure you have the correct tool size to tighten the axle head properly.
Axle Diameter
The typical diameter for most scooters is 8 mm, which also accommodates 8 mm bearings and spacers directly.
There are also axles with 6 mm & 10 mm diameters. Generally, off-road scooters are equipped with 10 mm axles, necessitating special bearings.
Screw Thread
An axle’s thread density aligns when purchasing a complete set with both head and screw/nut.
