DIY: Bleach Tie Dye - Make Your Own Acid Wash Shirt
We are all familiar with the idea that old school is superior, so who could possibly resist those classic acid-washed t-shirts? The great news is, you can create one on your own using your favourite SkatePro t-shirt.
We've given our SkatePro t-shirts a festival-friendly makeover that worked out so well, it inspired a DIY video. Take a look and unleash your creativity! The results are amazing, and you'll surely become the centre of attention (or at least among your mates).
Your essentials include bleach, rubber gloves, elastic bands, a container for rinsing afterward, and plastic bags to protect your ‘workspace’.
The transformation unfolds in 5 straightforward steps:
1. Prepare yourself—cover the surface with plastic bags where you will carry out the bleaching. Put on gloves to protect your skin from acid burns, and you’re ready to begin.
2. Roll the t-shirt into your chosen design (refer to our video for ideas) and secure it using the elastic bands.
3. Apply bleach to the areas where you've folded your t-shirt into a design, adding more bleach to smaller areas if needed.
4. Allow it to sit for 60 minutes, then rinse in a bucket of water until the water runs clear.
5. Let it dry! There you have it! Your acid-wash SkatePro t-shirt is ready to impress.
NB! Ensure to wash it separately the first time to prevent accidentally bleaching other clothing. Finally, if you wish to try this yourself, remember to do it outside, allowing the fumes to disperse.
