Skateboard Ramps & Grind Rails
Understanding Skate Ramps
Skate ramps, also referred to as skateboard ramps, are utilised by skateboarders to execute tricks and aerial manoeuvres. The most prevalent types are launch ramps and kickers. Designed for ease of transport, they feature a bank or slope set at either a straight or curved angle for jumps.
In skateparks, quarter pipe ramps and skateboard half-pipes are a common sight. Quarter pipes can be constructed from a variety of materials, including wood and metal, and typically approach a ninety-degree angle. These are used for executing tricks at the peak of the air and then descending. Half-pipes are generally crafted from wood and are a preferred choice for skaters in parks.
A Guide to Grind Rails
A grind rail is either a pipe or narrow platform frequently used by skateboarders for performing grinds and slides. They can be placed on the ground or used to link various types of ramps. Made from metal, grind rails commonly have a square or round shape, with most being around six feet in length.
Building Your Own Skate Park
Many of the aforementioned ramps and rails can be purchased for personal use to set up your own skate park. Some require assembly, whereas others come ready to use. Alternatively, you could construct a ramp or rail yourself; however, this requires skill in woodworking and metalworking.
