Initially, the company focused solely on producing Darkstar wheels; however, due to high demand and success, they expanded to create quality decks, complete boards, and apparel. Founded by Chet Thomas in 1997, Darkstar is part of Dwindle Distribution, headquartered in El Segundo, California. Since 2005, Dwindle Distribution has held the title of the largest skateboard company globally. Steve Rocco, in partnership with professional skateboarder Rodney Mullen, established the company.
